ITA — Integrity, Transparency and Accountability — is the governance standard that underpins the FEED Agenda. While FEED defines the development priorities, ITA defines how leadership and representation should be conducted: with integrity in decisions, transparency in engagement and accountability to the people. Together, these principles provide a framework for responsible, people-centred representation and the careful stewardship of public trust.
The FEED–ITA Framework
FEED → Development Agenda — What we seek to achieve
ITA → Governance Standard — How we seek to serve
The Three Principles of ITA
I — INTEGRITY
Doing what is right, lawful and responsible even when it is difficult—placing the interests of the people above personal considerations and ensuring that decisions, advocacy and representation are guided by ethical leadership, fairness and the responsible stewardship of public trust.
T — TRANSPARENCY
Promoting openness and clarity in representation by keeping the people appropriately informed about priorities, decisions, advocacy and progress—creating accessible channels for communication, encouraging constructive engagement and ensuring that public responsibility is exercised in a manner that builds confidence and trust.
A — ACCOUNTABILITY
Taking responsibility for the mandate entrusted by the people by setting clear priorities, pursuing measurable outcomes and remaining answerable for decisions, actions and results—while maintaining sustained engagement with constituents and ensuring that representation remains focused on delivering meaningful value to the people of Bayelsa West.
ITA in Practice
Integrity → how decisions are made.
Transparency → how leadership communicates and engages.
Accountability → how leadership takes responsibility for actions and results.
From Principles to Public Trust
ITA is intended to move beyond words into a practical standard for public service. Integrity should guide decisions, transparency should keep the people meaningfully informed, and accountability should ensure that leadership remains answerable for its actions, priorities and results.
Standards of Representation
Ethical Decision-Making
Public decisions and advocacy should be guided by law, fairness, the public interest and responsible stewardship rather than personal considerations.
Open and Sustained Engagement
Constituents should have meaningful opportunities to be heard, contribute ideas, raise concerns and remain informed about priorities, advocacy and progress.
Responsible Stewardship
Public resources, opportunities and influence should be approached with discipline, care and a clear commitment to achieving value for the people
Measurable Representation
Leadership should pursue clearly defined priorities and communicate progress so that representation can increasingly be assessed by actions, outcomes and public value.
Continuous Accountability
Accountability should not be limited to election periods. Sustained engagement with the people should provide opportunities for feedback, evaluation and continuous improvement throughout the period of representation.
FEED defines what we seek to achieve. ITA defines how we seek to serve. Together, they provide a framework for purposeful development and responsible, people-centred representation in Bayelsa West.
